HOW TO MEASURE A WHIPPET (FOR COATS, JUMPERS & PYJAMAS)
Getting the correct measurements is the most important step to ensure the best fit.
Sighthounds such as whippets, greyhounds and lurchers have a unique body shape — deep chest, slim waist and curved back — which means standard dog sizing often doesn’t fit properly.
This guide shows you exactly how to measure your dog correctly and avoid common sizing mistakes.
THE 3 MEASUREMENTS YOU NEED
To choose the correct size, you only need three simple measurements.
Always use a soft measuring tape and measure your dog standing naturally.
1. Back Length
From the base of the neck to the base of the tail
(this equals the size you select from the drop-down)
2. Chest Circumference
Around the deepest part of the chest (just behind the front legs)
3. Neck Circumstance
Around the base of the neck
IMPORTANT: COATS VS PYJAMAS – MEASURING DIFFERENCE
Not all products are measured the same.
One of the most common mistakes is using coat measurements for pyjamas or jumpers.
COATS
(Raincoats & Quilted coats )
For coats, including lightweight waterproof coats and quilted winter coats, measure from the base of the neck and continue along the back to over the tail.
👉 The coat should extend past the tail slightly for full coverage
This is different from pyjamas and jumpers, which stop at the base of the tail.
👉 The measurement you take is the size you select from the drop-down.
🐾 PYJAMAS & JUMPERS
For Pyjamas & Jumpers
For pyjamas and jumpers, including both 2 leg fleece pyjamas and 4 leg fleece pyjamas, measure from the base of the neck to the base of the tail.
👉 Do NOT measure past the tail
If you measure past the tail, the garment will be too long and your dog may step out of the back legs.
👉 The measurement you take is the size you select.
Always follow the correct guide for the product you are ordering.
SIZE & FIT TIPS
If your dog is between sizes, we recommend sizing up — especially for pyjamas and jumpers.
Sighthounds have deep chests, so chest measurement is just as important as back length.
If the chest measurement is close to the upper limit of a size, it is best to size up for a comfortable fit.
All items are made to standard sizes.
